COUSSERGUES

CousserguesEglise01

Coussergues is an unusual village with its two bell towers.

The first church was built in 1352, but shortly afterwards the bishop of Rodez ordered its destruction in order to protect his castle in Palmas. In 1356, it was rebuilt. In the 15th century, the bell tower was built, and it became a fortified church. In France, in the 19th century, the clergy destroyed a lot of fortified churches, including this church in Coussergues.

Today, the bell tower is the only vestige of the old church.

You can walk along the Serre river, and observe an attractive Roman bridge.
