From the Middle Ages to the Revolution, the bishops of Rodez possessed a powerful fortified castle in the village and they built a bridge across the river. A lot of conflicts arose between the bishops and the lord of Séverac.

In Palmas and the surrounding hamlets, you can see a lot of recycling of architectural objects (stones, windows, fireplaces, …) taken by the inhabitants from the castle ruins.

500 metres from the village, Pont de Palmas is a neighbourhood built around the bridge over the Aveyron river.

This bridge used to be a toll crossing. Today you can see the coat of arms of François d’Estaing carved on it. In the village, you can see a house with a remarkable roof « à la Philibert », and a magnificent public washing place.
